The future of our nation is in the hands of our young people. We all can and should play a role in assuring America's future by addressing the needs of youth and by focusing on the issues affecting them today. Many young people will come into contact with the legal system, whether through family court, foster care, or the juvenile justice system. In addition, all youth need to understand their rights and responsibilities under the law to become effective participants in our nation's civic life.

The 2007 Law Day theme prompts us to listen to the voices of young people and consider how the law can better serve their needs and interests. It also encourages us to assure that our youth are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively make their voices heard within our democracy.

This annual spring event pairs attorneys and judges with classrooms throughout the state to discuss concepts of law, rights and responsibilities of citizenship, and additional legal issues consistent with student interest and the course curriculum. School requests are coordinated by one designated person in a school who receives match-up information from the LRE Coordinator, and disseminates materials within the school. The LRE Coordinator provides attorney/judge volunteers to the school coordinator.

The best way to communicate your message with all New Hampshire lawyers is to advertise in one of the NH Bar Association's publications. NH Bar Journal is published quarterly and offers display advertising. Another advertising option, coming soon to this site, will be the NHBA Vendor eMall. This electronic mall will post ads that can include your company's logo, a link to your Web site and/or email address as well as a description of your services.

Law-Related Education Program is pleased to make available this guide explaining common laws that adults need to be aware of as they make decisions in adulthood. This publication was last updated in 2002 by second year Franklin Pierce Law Center student, Kelly Dunham. The Bar wishes to thank Ms. Dunham for her time and efforts. Please note: this guide is based on New Hampshire law in effect at the time of publication. It is issued as a public service to provide general information only and is not a substitute for specific legal advice.

Many law firms now regularly utilize a paper shredder to destroy draft documents, old files, and other materials that are no longer necessary to keep all in furtherance of preserving client confidences. As more and more client information is stored on electronic media, however, the same confidentiality concerns arise and the paper shredder may not suffice. You can't just simply toss an unwanted CD, DVD, or floppy disk into the trash. Those who may find it in the trash can too easily recover the information on the discarded media.
